Functional winter window covering solutions

In winter, insulation is a top priority. A well-insulated home improves comfort, productivity and limits heat loss—reducing your energy expenditure. With up to 30% of a homes total heat loss occurring at the window, significant gains can be made with an insulated, functional and automated Luxaflex window covering. Here’s a breakdown of some of our favourites.

Duette® Honeycomb Shades

With quality and innovation at their core, Duette Shades are engineered to provide energy efficiency at the window in both warm and cold climates. An all-year solution, their unique honeycomb construction traps air in distinct pockets, keeping warm air in and cold air out, and lowering your energy consumption and bills. The original honeycomb blind, Duette Shades, are an effective device for the temperature regulation of any home environment.

Duette Shades innovative design and performance doesn’t stop at insulation. Want to learn more? Read through our Duette Showcase series for more details.

Duette Architella®

Duette Architella takes the honeycomb concept one step further. Capitalising on the performance of this innovative design, they feature a cell-within-a-cell construction to achieve even greater energy efficiency gains. By increasing the R-value (more on that here) of a 3mm single glazed window from 0.127 up to 0.775, Duette Architella are well suited to the retrofitting of existing windows.

PolySatin® Shutters

Luxaflex PolySatin Shutters are adjustable, allowing you to fully control the solar energy entering your windows and doors. With the ability to open both vanes and panels, you can open the shutters to allow warming sun into your home during the day for a positive thermal gain. And in summer, you can achieve the opposite effect.

PolySatin Shutters feature a cellular construction that traps air. Coupled with the low conductivity of the advanced polyresin compound they are made from, PolySatin Shutters prove to be an effective layer of energy-saving insulation, reducing heat exchange at the window.

Feat. Dual Roller Blinds with Blockout and Sunscreen fabrics

Dual Roller Blinds

Dual Roller Blinds combine the functionality of two different fabrics in the one roller blind system for improved light and privacy control. By pairing your choice of blockout fabric with sunscreen or sheer for a diffused glow during the day and complete privacy and light control in the evening.

With both Roller Blinds down at night, an additional insulative air barrier is created between the front and back facing fabrics. In addition, you can select foam-backed blockout fabrics as part of this pairing to further improve their performance.

Feat. PowerView Pebble Remote

Automate for energy gains

During winter, we highly recommend that window coverings are opened during the day. By doing so, your home can catch free solar heat. Then, when they are closed, you trap that heat inside. In raising the temperature of your indoor environment during the day and keeping it there, you reduce the energy burden of heating your home as less ‘thermal ground’ needs to be made.

With automation, this task is made easy. At Luxaflex, we offer a broad range of automation options for most products, including Duette Shades, PolySatin Shutters and Roller Blinds. With remote control, voice activation and scheduling options, automated blinds can help reduce your energy consumption and improve home comfort.
